Never got to see him live, but I do have one of his books and I've watched numerous specials of his. The man was brilliant, plain and simple. I love stand-up comedy, and I enjoy all types of comics. But by far, my favorites are the ones who are funny AND intelligent, and whose humour stems from their intelligence. Carlin was both.

I wasn't the world's biggest Kinison fan by any means but I will admit he did hit some legendary home runs (to this day, the bit about the Africans living in the deserts and his spiel about why the U.S. planes 'accidentally' hit the French embassy in Libya in 1986 are two of my all-time favorites).

My current favorite comedian is Lewis Black. The late Bill Hicks was a lot like Carlin and was one of my faves as well.
